Today is March 20, 2021, the Spring or Vernal Equinox, also known as Ostara, in the Northern hemisphere. This day marks the beginning of Spring, the moment when the sun is directly above the equator. On this day, light and dark are balanced, in equanimity— an opportunity to explore balance in our lives. Following this, the daylight begins to stretch out, as we experience longer days and shorter nights.
This time invites us to usher in new beginnings. It is a time for planting seeds, both figuratively and literally. Fertility and abundance buoy up into the consciousness, as this time often reminds us of new life, represented in the crocuses bursting up through the damp Earth, little buds popping up on once barren tree limbs, and the sweet serenade of birds chirping in the morning.
As many of you know, I am a fan of marking time, of honoring transitions. The Spring Equinox is such a time. As we enter into the sun sign of Aries, we invite more activity, more fire, more life. In doing so, it is valuable and transformational to revisit the past winter season: To offer gratitude and acknowledgement for the blessings and lessons, to release what is no longer needed, and then to turn around once again to set your sights and intentions for the spring season to come. Fire offers clarity and insight, energy and motion. Taking a moment to focus that fire can make all the difference.
Among many practices useful at this time, setting your vision or opening your heart-mind to what you wish to invite for the next few months is a common practice for me. I recorded a guided meditation below from Llewellyn’s Sabbat Essentials, Ostara, as a gift to you to aid in this transitional time. Please enjoy it!
